Pictures of my Year

Okay, I'm new to this whole blogging thing, so bear with me :)

My hopes are that through this blog, I can keep people across Nebraska up to date on what I'm doing, as well as inform them about different volunteering projects that are available throughout our state!  As some people may know, my personal platfrom is  "Securing Our Nation's Future: Getting Youth Involved", and I hope to do just that this year as Miss Nebraska's Outstanding Teen!

Now some people may wonder why it's important to volunteer, here are a few reasons -

1. It's easy! Some people think that unless you are completely dedicated to community service, it's hard to get into volunteering. Nope! There are so many opportunities in your community that you may not know of!  My goal with this blog is to reach across the state of Nebraska and let people know about different projects going on in their community, and even coming into their community and getting some projects started.

2. For those of you who are high school seniors/juniors - It's soooo necessary to do some sort of community involvement activity when applying for college scholarships.  I am finding that in my quest for college cash that colleges are really looking at what you've done for your community.  It really only takes a few hours a month, and those few hours can translate into a lot more when scholarships are awarded.

3. It's fun.  There are literately thousands of differen't service projects in the United States. Anyone can find one that fits their interests and talents! Whether it be athletic or artistic, solo or in a large group, there is some sort of project out there to fit what you like and want to do.

4. It's important.  The United States would not be what it is today without the volunteers that have shaped it.  If it weren't for volunteers, who would clean up after floods, hurricanes, and tornadoes? Or raise money for childrens hospitals to help save millions of children? It's important that we continue the cycle of volunteering into every generation, and that is my goal.

That's all for now :) Keep checking back, I will be posting details about different service project I'm trying to arrange throughout Nebraska!
